Penelope Gkika and Maroulita de Kol have been working together for nearly a decade, researching and reinterpreting the stories and musical material of Greek traditional music. Their collaborative work together focuses on exploring a radically different approach to traditional music, presenting the music in an context that combines traditional music with a more avant-garde approach, utilizing violin, piano, voices and electronics. As trained classical musicians, they intertwine their cultural legacy with contemporary artistic practices, allowing the music to evolve in a way that resonates with and connects to the world we all collectively inhabit.

 

In addition to their duo project, they have founded three Berlin-based bands that are involved in similar sonic research - Reverse Mode, Arcangel Trio and Farmagia, all of which actively perform around Europe.
